3 Stages of Recovery

After a flood, back-up, or line burst has occurred and water has damaged some aspect of your home, there are three steps you take to recover. The first step is called mitigation, which is the process for stopping the source of water from continuing to damage the home and the assessment and containment stages. Once the damage has been mitigated, you must remediate the impacted area, which usually includes demolition work to remove all of the non-recoverable materials like wet insulation, often times flooring and drywall are extracted from the home to eliminate the growth of any mold and contamination. You will often see ventilation holes cut from the drywall and ceiling and your contractor must conduct a moisture mapping to determine where the damage starts and ends. Water damage can be hidden in many cases behind walls, this is where moisture meters are used to determine exactly where the damage is located. High frequency turbo fans are left along with several other air filtration and dehumidifiers to eliminate all remaining moisture from the area. The final step is the restoration process which often turns into an opportunity for the homeowner to complete upgrades to the impacted area that’s being rebuilt. This involves planning and designing how you want the damaged area to look when it’s complete, along with the actual process of installing and building out the impacted area.
